Project - Gateway Upgrade North - Brisbane, Australia
Project Value - $1.143 billion

The Gateway Motorway North between Nudgee and Deagon is a four-lane motorway providing a critical transport corridor for more than 83,000 vehicles each day. It also services the Brisbane Airport, Port of Brisbane and the Australia TradeCoast precinct. This section of the Gateway Motorway is already highly congested and is facing demands from:

South-east Queensland population growth
Continued expansion of the Australia TradeCoast.


The $1.143 billion Gateway Upgrade North project (Nudgee to Bracken Ridge) is being jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments and will not only reduce this congestion but improve safety and increase efficiency of the motorway network.

Key features

The Gateway Upgrade North project (Nudgee to Bracken Ridge) is being jointly funded by the federal and state governments and includes:

Widening the motorway from four to six lanes from Nudgee
to Deagon
Reconfiguring the Nudgee interchange including a new Nudgee Road overpass
Widening the Deagon Deviation between Depot Road and Bracken Ridge Road to provide two lanes in each direction
Modifications to the Bicentennial Road interchange including extended on and off-ramps
Construction of an off-road cycle/pedestrian facility
Intelligent Transport Systems including:
Variable speed limit signage
Variable messaging signs
Traffic monitoring cameras
Ramp metering (which involves traffic signals to help control the flow of traffic entering the motorway and
relieve congestion).

Project - Zayed University, Abu Dhabi UAE

The project involves construction of a new campus to accommodate 6000 students in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The new campus includes faculty and administration buildings, classrooms, science and computer laboratories and 18000 square meter library, cafeteria, sports complex and world class convention centre. A total of 26 buildings spread among male, female and the central campus.
The university campus reflects traditional and contemporary architectural and engineering elements highlighting the national identity and architectural heritage of the UAE

Project - TAMEER Towers, Abu Dhabi UAE

The project involves construction of a commercial complex at the heart of shams development on Abu Dhabi’s prestigious Al Reem Island. The project involves 4 residential towers, commercial tower, stepped up villas, townhouses and serviced apartments and private marina.
The centre piece of the project is 74 storey diamond shaped commercial tower. The project is exceptional landmark of Al-Reem Island’s business district.

Project - Ipswich Logan Interchange, Brisbane, Australia

The project is part of upgrading Ipswich/Logan interchange and 2 km stretch of the Ipswich Logan motorway in south east Queensland. The complex staging involves construction of 10 bridges around live traffic.
The project once complete will improve safety standards and cut the travel time between Ipswich to Brisbane city.

The project involved commercial development of 5 Ha land adjacent to KCRC Hung Hom station in Hong Kong. The development included construction of a hotel, office tower & two serviced apartment towers on a podium construction

Project - Gosford & Wyong Hospital Extension, Australia Applied Safety Research

The research was carried out on two hospital projects near Sydney in New South Wales. The construction works involved redevelopment of Gosford and Wyong Hospitals. Central Coast Health, the client for this project funded this research. Other stakeholders included the Head Contractor (HC), Client’s project managers, the subcontractor managers (SC) and the workers.
The research was carried out within the construction project cycle for the two projects and results were compared between the projects.

Project - "Computer Aided Learning for Civil Engineering Students" CIVCAL

CIVCAL is designed as a multimedia package to support undergraduate teaching and learning of civil & building construction. It facilitates ‘virtual site visits’ bringing ‘the field’ experience to the students.
CIVCAL was funded by the University Grant Committee of Hong Kong & was developed by combined university team from university of Hong Kong, City University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology
